A woman named Marian Anderson was born February 27, 1897 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a child Marian Anderson had found a wonderful talent. Her talent was that she could sing really well. At the age of six Marian joined the junior church choir. When Marian Anderson was thirteen she then joined the senior church. At Marian’s young age she became very popular because of her voice. People in Marian’s community used to ask her to come perform for them. Some nights Marian would perform multiple nights, and she would sometimes request five dollars for each performance she did. When Marian Anderson started to get older and she graduated from high school she started to become really serious about her singing career. Marian applied to an all white school for musicians. Marian Anderson was unable to get into the school because of her being African American. From her not getting into the school did not stop her from singing. In 1919, she was twenty-two years old and she still for her church, and she had sung at The National Church Convention. Marian’s singing was so beautiful that she was discovered by a man named, William “Billy” King. William King had become Marian’s manager. Also she had gone on tour at different churches and black colleges. She began making a hundred dollars per concert.
